Group Culture Assessments: Working As A Team In A Diverse Environment

By Henry Lewis

Imagine if you worked with people who had the same personality as the one yours. Wouldn t work be boring? It sure would because there is nothing you could learn from an individual or people who had the same thinking sense and personality as the one you have. However, when you work with a variety of people, there s a lot you could learn. It is for this reason why a group culture assessments are so important.

The trick is simple. Seeing that there are different races and traditions employed in one roof, the only way you can be guaranteed that everyone will get along is by setting a mission and vision statement. Although the objectives may be related to what the company does in terms of a good or service, culture, diversity and a respect for history have to be stipulated in the vision and mission statement.

As management, it is important that you don t take any of your employee s side. If you do this, other workers may take an offense. Instead, you should be neutral and you shouldn t always be at your worker s aid. Sometimes, you need to let your subordinates figure out a situation on their own as to you always being around when they shout for help.

Having activities such as team building exercises will help a team get to know each other better. This way, they will get to work together as a team in an environment that is outside the office. These activities will tackle the strengths and weaknesses of each employee and they will work better once they know who is good at what and what can they do better.

There is so much you can learn from somebody who comes from a different country and wasn t brought up the same way you were. Instead of judging a different culture, you could be engaging in the knowledge you never thought was possible for you to have. Who knows? Maybe, this will make you appreciate your co-workers more now that you know them a bit better.

Seeing that there are different international and even national holidays, this should mean each and every country has separate holidays they embrace too. It will mean a lot to your group of employees or friends if you participated at least by gaining knowledge as to the significance of why they celebrate such special days and why they so dear to their hearts.

It is important that people realize that there is no experience that is greater than the other. Every tradition is equally significant and has a say like any other ethnic group. Some people think their history is significantly more than the next. This is not how an individual should think or reason with another. Everybody should be treated with the same amount of respect and admiration.

There is nothing you will lose from getting along with people who are from different cultures and countries. However, there is no so much you can learn. Furthermore, a relationship of this nature opens a new door of possibilities. Being in a workplace with different cultures will actually work in your favor I you let it.
